Accessibility: From the parking lot, we will be taking a 20-30 minute walk to orient ourselves to the park. It is a multi-use dirt path. The remainder of the class will be in one location at the lake. Participants are asked to bring their own seating.

Take a moment to pause and immerse yourself in the beauty of Golden Gate Park with west-side residents illustrator Hollis Callas and herbalist kelly lecoy. Join us for a guided walk through the park and an exploration of nature journaling, a mindful practice that encourages you to slow down and notice the ever-changing details of the world around you.
Hollis will share her own process for gathering inspiration, offering insights into how she observes, sketches, and captures fleeting moments of beauty. Through simple yet engaging techniques, she’ll demonstrate how to weave together sketches and reflections that bring nature to life on the page.
Kelly will lead the walk, offering context about the land and introducing edible and medicinal plants. She’ll share insights into her approach to observation and provide guiding questions to deepen your experience. During the nature journaling process, she’ll demonstrate how to add depth to your plant observations using field guides and other references.

No prior experience is needed—just bring your curiosity, a sketchbook, and a pencil.

About your guides:
Hollis Callas is an illustrator & designer living, working and creating in the Inner Richmond of San Francisco. Her work is inspired by a boundless curiosity for nature and an appreciation of the beautiful subtleties spotted in her daily life. With a focus on flora & fauna, she hopes her work sparks a similar awe and admiration in others, and encourages them to become more thoughtful stewards of the wild things that make our Earth so special.
kelly lecoy is a clinical and community herbalist, medicine maker, and educator based in the Outer Sunset. She approaches holistic wellbeing as an ever-evolving process, encouraging collaboration, and deepening awareness of the natural cycles that shape our lives.
